“Extra Help” for Low-Income Medicare Beneficiaries

Your Medicare patients may be eligible for the Extra Help program, also known as the low-income subsidy (LIS), which helps cover prescription drug costs. A Medicare beneficiary is eligible for Extra Help if the beneficiary’s resources and income are below a certain level, which is determined by the federal poverty level (FPL). Resource limits are evaluated and adjusted annually and based on marital status. This information is generally released in February of each calendar year.
